Been There - Control
This message kicks off the Been There series by emphasizing that Jesus, being fully God and fully human, understands our struggles because He’s been through them too. Focusing on our desire to control—whether it’s people, plans, image, or outcomes—it challenges us to recognize that what we try to control most often reveals where we trust God the least. Drawing from Jesus’ wilderness temptation in Matthew 4, we see how He resisted the urge to control provision, image, and power by choosing surrender instead. We’re invited to do the same by asking: Is this worth my concern? Is it mine to control? Or is it for God alone? Jesus modeled total surrender throughout His life, culminating in Gethsemane when He said, “Not my will, but Yours be done.” His surrender unlocked not only His victory, but ours—and in a control-obsessed world, we’re reminded that while we may not always have the power to control, we always have the power to surrender
