Breaking The Cycle Of Anger | Pastor Nathan Derenski

Nathan Derenski

We all carry anger in our hearts, whether it's triggered by bad drivers, difficult family members, or deeper wounds we haven't yet addressed. This message takes us on a profound journey into understanding anger through the lens of Jesus' own experience in Mark 3:1-5, where He looked at the religious leaders 'in anger' yet remained sinless. The central revelation here is that anger itself isn't sin—it's what we do with it that matters. We're introduced to the 'anger cycle': offense leads to a seed planted in our hearts, which grows into a root of bitterness, eventually resulting in an outburst that creates offense in someone else. This cycle continues endlessly unless we intentionally break it. The three-step process offered is beautifully simple yet challenging: Discover (Holy Spirit, help me identify the root), Disclose (Holy Spirit, heal me as I bring it to light), and Deny (Holy Spirit, have Your way instead of my flesh). The powerful imagery of nut grass—a weed that spreads faster when improperly removed—reminds us that surface-level solutions never work. We must dig deep, remove the entire root system, and plant new seeds of God's Word. The freedom waiting on the other side of this work isn't just for us; it's for the generations that follow us.
