Crown The Year | Pastor Nathan Derenski

As we stand at the threshold between years, we're invited to do something counterintuitive: look backward before moving forward. Drawing from Psalm 65:11-13, we discover that God doesn't just bless one year or the next—He encircles both with His goodness, like a wreath of celebration surrounding our lives. This powerful imagery challenges us to stop drifting through life driven by fear of what we don't want, and instead to embrace a faith-filled vision for what God is calling us toward. The message confronts our tendency to live reactively, saying 'I don't want stress, I don't want to be broke, I don't want to feel stuck'—like ordering coffee by only stating what we don't want. Instead, we're called to articulate God-given dreams across four critical life areas: spiritual growth, relationships, personal health, and work calling. The wilderness can still produce pastures when we align ourselves with God's purposes. Even in uncultivated seasons of life, fruit can flourish when we're positioned within His will. This isn't about manufacturing our own future apart from God, but about intentionally seeking His vision through prayer, scripture, and spiritual disciplines. Without prophetic vision, we perish—or more accurately, we drift aimlessly, hitting targets that were never meant for us, like the Olympic shooter who hit a perfect bullseye on the wrong target. The invitation is clear: let's bookend this year with God's goodness by reflecting on where we've been and intentionally charting where He's calling us to go.
